My name is Jen, and I am just a runner ...

Hi there. My name is Jen, and I am just a runner from Cleveland, Ohio who likes to take pictures ... lots of pictures.

Who I am ... and what I write about ...

The Unforgiving Minute is a personal blog, and as such it roams around quite a bit sometimes in terms of topics, but the main focus of the blog is on running. Of course, there are lots of blogs about running out there. There are two things that make my blog unique:

1. I am also a photographer. I love to take photographs of the flora and fauna near my home in Cleveland, Ohio. I post my photos as little galleries called "photos of the day."

2. I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with cancer in February 2007. I was a runner before I was diagnosed, I ran during chemo, I am still a runner. Running has always played a very important role in my life, and it helped me immeasurably when I went through cancer. I write about running from the perspective of being a cancer survivor - in my blog, I talk about what it is like to be a runner with cancer, as well as my struggle to run with some of cancer and chemo's effects. I hope that some of what I post here gives others hope.

About My Blog's Title

The title of blog comes from Rudyard Kipling's famous poem, IF.

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on"

...

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it.
