About the Blog
If you can fill the unforgiving minute ... with sixty seconds’ worth of distance run ... Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it.

Beautiful morning -- beautiful sunrise. Cold, but comfortable.
Crossing the road, with the light, in the crosswalk.
A white Acura approaches.
Realization: He's not going to come to a stop. He's going to do a rolling right on red.
Split second decision: Speed up and jump onto the curb.
Jump onto the curb. Right foot slips. Ankle twists. Hands go out to break fall.
Stunned. Hop up and run a few steps. Driver does not even bother to stop. Brain says: Stop and assess.
Assessment: Knee hurts. Hand hurts. Ankle hurts. Hip really hurts.
A half-mile from home. Take a few strides. Seems ok. Jog home.
Reassess at home: blood oozing through tights at the knee. A nice circular scrape on the left knee. Left hand really hurts, but seems functional. Right hip is screaming, right ankle is stiff and sore but seems ok.
A few hours later: Just sore, except for the ankle and the hip which are really, really hurting. Especially the hip which has been a problem with since another run-in with a driver in an eerily similar situation 8 weeks ago (yet another illegal rolling right on red).
And just like that, my marathon plans are in jeopardy.
I hope Mr. Self Important got wherever he needed to get to so badly that he needed to essentially run a red light.
